I came across this again as I started to do some advent reading and was reminded of what this time of year should be about - discovering Christ in those we meet and reflecting Christ to those we meet.
Advent should admonish us to discover
In each brother or sister that we greet,
In each friend whose hand we shake,
In each beggar who asks for bread,
In each worker who wants to use the right to join a union,
In each peasant who looks for work in the coffee groves,
The face of Christ.
Then it would not be possible to rob them,
To cheat them,
To deny them their rights.
They are Christ,
And whatever is done to them
Christ will take as done to himself.
This is what Advent is:
Christ living among us.

I'm not sure if this is doctrinally solid, but I was thinking about 'where is God?' in situations where the answer might not be apparent.
God speaks
From the lowliest of towns
From the poorest of circumstances
God spoke;
Not in the dominant tones
Worthy of one such as him,
But in the devotion of shepherds,
The adoration of Wise Men,
The confusion of young parents
And the cries of a baby.
God spoke in the best the Inn Keeper could offer.
God spoke in the enthusiasm of the shepherds
Witnessing a strange occurrence,
and in the Wise Men’s learned search for truth.
God speaks today, not always in the mighty and wonderful
but often in the dirt and the hurt;
In the innocence and the confusion.
God speaks in the best we can offer, the enthusiasm we can bring
The struggle for truth and our hearts' cries to him.
