Moving mountains vs being equipped for the climb
I have been thinking more about the idea of moving mountains and as I think back on the situations that I have faced in my life more often than not I have had to climb the mountain rather than it being moved out of the way or flattened. As I said on Sunday I believe God often wants us to see the view from the top but this does mean we have to go through a strenuos and sometimes scary climb. However, if we put our trust in him and we are prepared to use the strength of his Holy Spirit to help we will make it to the top and be able to enjoy the view and being with God
Micah 4:2 Come let us go up the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.

Having just got back from Switzerland, the 'moving mountains' theme of last Sunday's service was quite relevent to me. In Switzerland, Holly and I went up into the mountains several times, and each time, the panoramic views from the mountain summits took our breath away. There is something amazing at being up so high in the snow, and looking down at all of the tiny scenery below. When we were at the summit at one of the mountains (which we reached by travelling on a gondala, not by hiking, I have to say!), we met a group of high school students from the USA. These students were on some sort of mountain adventure holiday, and had actually trekked up to the summit through the snow. They all looked completely exhausted, and some of them had scratches and cuts on their legs from scraping against snow covered rocks on their way to the summit. However, they also looked so happy and relieved to have finally made it up to the top. Most of them were lying in the sun and resting their feet!
Talking to these students made me think that there are loads of mountains in our lives, which we need to climb. Often the paths to the top of these mountains are incredibly difficult to scale, with sharp rocks to cut yourself on, slippery surfaces which are easy to fall over on, and vertical slopes which use up all of your strength and energy to climb. However, I think that with God's support, we can scale these mountains, no matter how big they are! And when we finally do reach the summit, we are presented with amazing views, clean air and lots of places to rest our feet!
